Adopt Klopfer

Domestic Rabbit · Male · 4 years

Klopfer is looking for a new, species-appropriate forever home with fellow animals. The calm rabbit was found in a forest. Due to his cataracts, we suspect he is already a bit older. Klopfer has a very laid-back personality but still gladly takes on the role of group leader. He always delights in fresh food and does not like to walk on smooth surfaces (e.g., tiles). Klopfer needs a home with a lot of space due to his size. Mr. Karnikel and Klopfer can be rehomed together. The two can only be rehomed with an uncastrated female starting around early April due to the castration period. They would like to provide Klopfer with a species-appropriate life and home?

About Klopfer

What life with Klopfer looks like

Klopfer is a extra-large adult domestic rabbit rabbit waiting at Tierschutzverein für Tirol in Innsbruck.

Rabbits are social animals — most shelters recommend adopting them in bonded pairs rather than alone. They need fresh hay daily, several hours of out-of-cage time, and rabbit-safe spaces to explore. They live eight to twelve years, longer than many people expect.

Note from the shelter: Vision impairment (lens clouding), needs soft flooring, requires companionship with other rabbits

🇦🇹Adopting from Austria

Austrian shelters follow the federal Tierschutzgesetz framework: adopters sign a Schutzvertrag (protection contract) committing to the animal's welfare. Spay/neuter, microchip, and vaccinations are included; fees typically range €150–€350.

Frequently asked

Adopting Klopfer, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Klopfer?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein für Tirol handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Klopfer on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Klopfer if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein für Tirol will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Klopfer already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most rabbits on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Klopfer isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein für Tirol early rather than rehoming privately; they know Klopfer and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
