Knoppers was found wandering the streets alone, with no owner beside her and no familiar home to return to. Everything about her circumstances suggested that she had been abandoned. For a dog who had previously known life with people, suddenly finding herself alone outside must have been an enormous change. Thankfully, Knoppers was found and brought to safety before anything happened to her. She is now living in boarding, and while she is safe, kennel life is not where a dog like Knoppers should spend the years ahead. Since her rescue, Knoppers has made it very easy for everyone around her to see what kind of dog she is. She is exceptionally friendly and sociable. Knoppers enjoys being around people and readily accepts affection. She has a gentle, loving nature and seems genuinely happy simply having others around her. She does not need complicated introductions before showing her sweet personality. She is naturally interested in people and enjoys their attention. She is also great with children. Her friendly and gentle character means she enjoys interacting with younger members of the family as well as adults. As with any dog, children should still be taught to interact respectfully and appropriately with her, but Knoppers has already shown herself to be comfortable and friendly around them. Her social nature extends to other animals too. Knoppers gets along wonderfully with other dogs and is comfortable in canine company. This means she could potentially join a home where there is already another suitable dog rather than needing to be the only dog in the household. She is also good with cats, giving her even more flexibility when it comes to finding the right family. A household that already includes feline family members could therefore be considered for her, with normal sensible introductions when she first arrives. What stands out about Knoppers is how straightforwardly lovely she is. She is affectionate without there needing to be a complicated story behind earning every interaction. She likes people. She likes other dogs. She is good with cats and children. She enjoys company and responds warmly to the world around her. Her future family should still remember that moving into a permanent home will be another major transition. Knoppers has experienced the loss of the home and routine she previously knew, followed by time on the streets and then boarding. Even a confident and friendly dog can need time to understand a completely new household. Her adopters should give her an opportunity to learn their routine at her own pace. Where she sleeps, when walks happen, where she eats, what the household rules are and what is expected from her will all be new information. Positive reinforcement and consistency will help her settle and understand that this new environment is somewhere she can remain. Knoppers will also need all the normal things that make life fulfilling for a dog: daily walks, opportunities to sniff and explore, play, mental stimulation, affection and plenty of involvement in family life. Most importantly, she needs stability. Knoppers has already experienced what it means for a familiar life to suddenly disappear. The next person who welcomes her home needs to be prepared to make a genuine commitment to her. She has shown that she can share her world happily with people, children, dogs and cats. She is friendly, affectionate, gentle and sociable, and she has all the qualities needed to become a much loved member of a family. Right now, the only part she is missing is the family itself.
