Knubbel

Male · Young · 2 years

May 2026: Perhaps Knubbel read our description of him and thought, "That's not all true, so I must do something about it." A few days after we wrote that he might not become a snuggler, he presented himself as an absolute lap cat. Purposefully, Knubbel comes out of his hiding place, makes himself comfortable with us humans, and then sits there—whenever it suits him. Now you can pet him, and sometimes he even shares his throne with another cat. From the lap, he watches how the younger cats play and run around. It takes longer until Knubbel deigns to chase the toy mouse, but when he does, he really goes at it. Knubbel's playing style looks quite clumsy, but also very cute. April 2026: Knubbelchen lives up to his name unfortunately, because he arrived at the shelter as a small matted bundle and his fur is still growing in somewhat irregularly... He is a young tomcat who has kept a certain distance from us so far, but we can clearly see how much potential he has. Unlike most shy cats, it did not take long until Knubbel dared to approach the food bowl even in the presence of two-legged beings—because for Knubbel, love definitely goes through the stomach. So far, Knubbel has moved into our kitten kindergarten, where he stays somewhat discreet in the background during the day—after all, he is already a big tomcat and the oldest there. At night, when it seems no one is watching, the playful Knubbel comes out and runs through the room. Actually, he is indeed just a young kitten. Knubbel has not had any problems with the other cats in the room so far, but he has had little contact with them. His hiding place seems not to want to share. When he comes out to play, he looks curiously for a particular female cat, who however shows a deliberate disinterest. We will observe how the situation in the cat apartment develops and whether Knubbel can still charm his heart's desire with his paw. Although we see a lot of potential in Knubbel: he still does not like to be touched. We cannot say if he will ever become a real snuggler, although we would of course like that. Therefore, Knubbel is not suitable for beginners or children.

About Knubbel

What life with Knubbel looks like

Knubbel is a large young adult cat waiting at Tierheim Bonn in Bonn.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Knubbel, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Knubbel?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Bonn handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Knubbel on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Knubbel if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Bonn will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Knubbel already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Knubbel isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Bonn early rather than rehoming privately; they know Knubbel and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
