Koko

Spanish Mastiff · Male · 5 years

And this adorable giant? We present Koko, a five-year-old Mastiff full of love to give. We don't know much about his past, only that he arrived at the shelter with his brother from the dog pound. Probably just typical farm dogs, with the sole purpose of being guard dogs. Koko has shown us in the short time he's been with us how eager he is to explore the world, loving to go straight from his kennel enclosure to the yard or to go for a walk outside. Because of this, he can be a bit pushy when it's time to go out, but he can be corrected without a problem. With people, he's a sweetheart; he lets us handle him without any issues, he enjoys getting a few cuddles but prefers to roam the yard and go at his own pace. He gets along well with other dogs, coexisting with his brother, and when he sees other dogs, he doesn't pay them much attention. We know how difficult it is for a Mastiff as big as Koko to find a home. With how well he gets along with everyone, we can barely believe how little interest there will be in him.

About Koko

What life with Koko looks like

Koko is a extra-large adult spanish mastiff dog waiting at Protectora Malaga in Málaga.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Pulls on leash when excited but responds to correction

🇪🇸Adopting from Spain

Spanish protectoras generally include sterilization, all vaccinations, microchip ID, and EU pet passport in the adoption fee (typically €250–€400 for a dog, €100–€180 for a cat). Many maintain partnerships with rescue transport providers across the EU.

Frequently asked

Adopting Koko, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Koko?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Protectora Malaga handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Koko on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Koko if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Protectora Malaga will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Koko already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Koko isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Protectora Malaga early rather than rehoming privately; they know Koko and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (ES). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
