Adopt Koleda

Female · Young · 1 year

On December 24th, the day before Christmas, Donna, a rabbit at the animal shelter, gave birth to 10 Christmas bunnies. Each tiny plump ball has therefore been given the name Christmas in a different language. So too has Koleda. The little ones went to a foster family for a while to grow up in peace. Now that the children are big enough, they have left the nest and the animal shelter to search for a cozy new home. Koleda is a handsome dark wild-colored girl. At first, she can be a bit shy, but eventually she likes to go on adventures and can be quite enterprising. Mamma Donna is a sturdy rabbit weighing around 3.5 kilograms, so we expect the children to grow larger than a standard medium-sized rabbit. We are looking for a cozy household for Koleda with plenty of space, many challenges, and a neutered bunny friend.

About Koleda

What life with Koleda looks like

Koleda is a large young adult rabbit waiting at Dierentehuis Stevenshage Leiden in Leiden.

Rabbits are social animals — most shelters recommend adopting them in bonded pairs rather than alone. They need fresh hay daily, several hours of out-of-cage time, and rabbit-safe spaces to explore. They live eight to twelve years, longer than many people expect.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Koleda, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Koleda?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dierentehuis Stevenshage Leiden handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Koleda on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Koleda if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dierentehuis Stevenshage Leiden will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Koleda already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most rabbits on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Koleda isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dierentehuis Stevenshage Leiden early rather than rehoming privately; they know Koleda and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
