Kolts

Male · Young · 2 years

A small 5 kg dog, along with 16 other dogs, was removed from a home by the PVD after the owner was hospitalized. It is unclear whether the dogs were intentionally bred or if this was another location where dogs were allowed to breed uncontrollably. The dogs were not malnourished or sick, but they were not socialized. Walking on a leash, having strangers nearby, and being left alone without the rest of the pack were terrifying experiences for them. Fortunately, these dogs, although fearful of everything, did not bite. Koltiņš is the most fearful of all the barkers, so we are looking for a home where there are no young children (due to the quiet environment), the owners have experience with dogs, and are willing to socialize the little dog with encouragement. In the first few days, it may be difficult, Koltiņš will hide in a corner, but after a few days, he will choose that one person to become his tail, and eventually all the household members will be loved, cherished, and protected. He would be more suitable for life in a private house, but if you are patient enough to gradually accustom him to life in the city and walks in noisy streets - we can also consider this option. The most important thing is the person who wants to become Koltiņš's whole world.

About Kolts

What life with Kolts looks like

Kolts is a young adult dog waiting at Labās Mājas in Riga.

A young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇱🇻Adopting from Latvia

The shelter typically completes the animal's vaccinations, microchipping, and pet passport before adoption. Specific fees and process details vary by shelter and country — confirm directly via the contact details in the sidebar.

Frequently asked

Adopting Kolts, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Kolts?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Labās Mājas handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Kolts on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Kolts if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Labās Mājas will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Kolts already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Kolts isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Labās Mājas early rather than rehoming privately; they know Kolts and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (LV). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
