Adopt Kongo

Mixed Breed · Male · Puppy · 9 months

Kongo is a 9-month-old, intelligent, open-minded, and playful puppy junior, who captivates with his charming nature. Despite his young age, he is pleasant and not intrusive. Kongo gets along well with fellow animals, is also compatible with cats, and is familiar with interacting with children. This eager-to-learn male dog loves taking on new tasks and shows exemplary behavior during car rides. Of course, he is typically a little silly at times, but that’s what makes him so lovable. For Kongo, we are looking for people with dog experience who can offer him a loving but consistent upbringing. He is an active dog who wants to be both physically and mentally challenged. Attending dog training classes is strongly recommended to optimize his potential and strengthen the bond between him and his new family. In dog training classes, Kongo not only learns basic commands but also important social rules in interacting with other dogs and people. Exchanging with other dog owners and receiving professional guidance help his new owners better understand him and cater to his needs. At the same time, Kongo is mentally challenged and can train his clever mind through targeted exercises. A good dog training class thus offers not only Kongo, but also his new family, the ideal foundation for a harmonious coexistence. Currently, the handsome black puppy resides in the animal shelter – which has no cages – with four-legged friends of all sizes. Who would like to give this wonderful puppy junior a loving home and explore the world together with him?. This is a young, adolescent dog.

About Kongo

What life with Kongo looks like

Kongo is a puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Tierhilfe Franken e.V. in Lauf.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Kongo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Kongo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierhilfe Franken e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Kongo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Kongo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierhilfe Franken e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Kongo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Kongo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierhilfe Franken e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Kongo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
