Adopt Kora

Mixed Breed · Female

Kora was successfully rehomed at the beginning of June. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- My name is Kora and I am a female German Shepherd. I was given up at the animal shelter because my owner had a stroke and went to a care home, and her son could not adequately take care of me. Here at the animal shelter, I have been waiting since 2014 for a new home. This is what my caretakers say about me: Kora is a dream dog. She gets along well with cats and dogs, can be left alone, walks very well on a leash, is typical of her breed in being clingy and cuddly. She is always happiest with her humans. We immediately noticed Kora's poor back support, and an X-ray revealed spondylosis. She is currently pain-free and receives supportive treatment to slow down the progression of the disease. During flare-ups, pain therapy will be necessary, and this will not be spared from Kora in her old age. Nevertheless, in our opinion, this is the more manageable illness; with hip dysplasia, life in old age would be more difficult. Kora has excellent hips and is completely free of hip dysplasia. You would never know it, she runs and plays like a puppy. She also enjoys long walks, especially loves water. Kora is currently staying with a club member. If you would like to meet Kora, please arrange a visit. We wish for Kora a ground-floor home, whether suitable for apartment living or a house with a garden, Kora doesn't mind. Kora deserves it, and we would also like to let her previous owner know that Kora has arrived at her new home and is enjoying life... eMail:. This is a young, adolescent dog.

About Kora

What life with Kora looks like

Kora is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Schkortitz in Grimma.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Kora, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Kora?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Schkortitz handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Kora on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Kora if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Schkortitz will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Kora already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Kora isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Schkortitz early rather than rehoming privately; they know Kora and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
