KRUK

Male · 3 years

KRUK came to the animal shelter in an unusual way - someone who found him brought him. He had a collar with an attached phone number, so it seemed he would quickly return home. Unfortunately, the person who answered the phone stated that their dog was safe with them and didn't know what it was about. Thus, KRUK became a resident of the Krakow animal shelter. He was extremely thin - you could easily count his ribs. He looked like a shadow of a dog, not a full-blooded four-legged creature. Initially, he was also very distrustful. The closeness of people and outstretched hands clearly stressed him. When putting on a collar, he would freeze in tension, so he wore it constantly for safety. Over time, thanks to patient work and regular walks, he started to make progress. After a few months, he learned to calmly put on the collar, accepts gentle touch, and is becoming more confident with familiar people. He can even climb up on his paws, asking for a treat - and he no longer panics at the sight of an approaching hand. The collar is not by accident - KRUK runs like a speeding locomotive during walks. He needs a long, preferably 15-meter leash and a caregiver in good condition. Pulling on the collar could end in a neck injury, so a safer solution was chosen. Additionally, he can be reactive towards some dogs, so proper precautions are essential. This is definitely not a dog for the city or a block. Noise and a large number of stimuli would be too overwhelming for him. He cannot live with children or other animals - there have been aggressive behaviors in the animal shelter. He needs an especially patient, calm home that will allow him to build a relationship at his own pace and surround him with kindness. Adoption of Kruczka will be a process - numerous introductory walks and time for mutual acquaintance are necessary. If you have the perseverance, you like working with a dog, and you get satisfaction from slowly gaining trust, Kruczka will gladly go on a long walk with you through the meadows. Best in comfortable shoes.

Kruk trafił do schroniska w nietypowy sposób – przywiozła go osoba, która go znalazła. Bliskość człowieka i wyciągane w jego stronę ręce wyraźnie go stresowały. Najlepiej w wygodnych butach. Kontakt do wolontariuszki: 690 842 908

About KRUK

What life with KRUK looks like

KRUK is a medium-sized adult dog waiting at Schronisko Kraków in Kraków.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Requires rural environment, experienced handler, long leash walks, no urban/apartment living

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting KRUK, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about KRUK?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Kraków handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw KRUK on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt KRUK if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Kraków will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is KRUK already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if KRUK isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Kraków early rather than rehoming privately; they know KRUK and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
