Kuerbis

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 1 year

Gender: male Birthday: April 2024 Castrated/ Neutered: yes Weight: 30,2kg Back story: Kürbis was found as a puppy in May 2024. As first Brokkoli and Zuchini and then a few days later Paprika, Kürbis and Chicoree were left and look similar, we assume they are siblings. Description/Updates/Pictures: Update December 2025: Kürbis was found as a puppy together with his siblings and has grown into a young, stunning dog. He is now about one and a half years old and has spent most of his life in the shelter. Kürbis loves human attention. He is very affectionate and enjoys cuddles so much that he sometimes forgets his size and turns into a lap dog. He is eager to learn, obedient, and highly motivated. He already knows basic commands such as sit and down, walks on a leash within the shelter and his impulse control is steadily improving. Without distractions, many things already work very well. Kürbis is a strong and energetic dog who wants to be mentally and physically challenged. For him, we are looking for experienced dog owners who know how to confidently handle and guide a powerful dog. In the past, he has shown signs of aggression toward weaker dogs, which is why he currently lives alone. For Kürbis, we are looking for a home with no other animals. All of Kürbis’ siblings have already been adopted. Now he is the only one left, still waiting for the right person to step forward and give him his chance. Update May 2025: Kürbis has a laid-back personality, is absolutely great with humans and always up for some cuddles. He is obedient and a fast learner. He already knows some basics like walking on a leash and impulse control. Kürbis needs an experienced dog owner. Someone to guide him and show him how beautiful life can be outside the shelter. He is excited for every kind of attention and we would wish for him a home with no other animals. Sounds like you ? Contact us for more info Update December 2024: KÜRBIS is only 8 months old, confident, and highly intelligent. At the same time, he has this clueless, clumsy side that makes him even more adorable He’s super playful – always up for some fun. Such a handsome Kürbis! Update September 2024: Kürbis has grown a little but he really became a handsome boy. Or don't you think so? About Kuerbis

What life with Kuerbis looks like

Kuerbis is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Souda Shelter in Chania.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: History of aggression toward weaker dogs, requires experienced handling

🇬🇷Adopting from Greece

Greek shelters often partner with Northern European rescue groups for placements. Animals are sterilized, vaccinated, and chipped before adoption. Fees vary widely depending on whether the shelter is municipal or NGO-run.

Frequently asked

Adopting Kuerbis, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Kuerbis?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Souda Shelter handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Kuerbis on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Kuerbis if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Souda Shelter will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Kuerbis already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Kuerbis isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Souda Shelter early rather than rehoming privately; they know Kuerbis and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
