Kuma

Akita Β· Unknown Β· Young Β· 2 years

Meet Kuma, a handsome 2 year old boy who is looking for a new home through no fault of his own, after his owner sadly became unwell. Kuma has a lovely affectionate side, and his assessor was delighted by just how loving he was! He happily showered her with licks, showing what a sweet and friendly boy he is. On his walk, Kuma was easy to handle on the lead and behaved well around other dogs, showing no aggression towards any dogs he encountered. These are encouraging observations, however Kuma would benefit from large breed experienced owners to continue his ongoing training. Through no fault of his own, Kuma now needs someone who can offer him the love, care and stability he deserves. At just two years old, he has plenty of life ahead of him and so much potential to make a wonderful companion. 🏑 Could you be the one to give Kuma the home he deserves? If you have room in your heart and home for this affectionate boy, please get in touch to find out more about adopting Kuma and helping him start his next chapter. About Kuma

What life with Kuma looks like

Kuma is a large young adult akita dog waiting at Akita Rescue & Welfare Trust UK in United Kingdom.

A young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible β€” a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" β€” quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures β€” to let them settle.

πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Kuma, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Kuma?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Akita Rescue & Welfare Trust UK handles screening and the adoption contract directly β€” TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Kuma on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Kuma if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad β€” Akita Rescue & Welfare Trust UK will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Kuma already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported β€” ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Kuma isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work β€” that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Akita Rescue & Welfare Trust UK early rather than rehoming privately; they know Kuma and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect β€” names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
