KUMPEL

Unknown · Senior · 14 years

Kumpel is a cheerful dog who’s eager to find his person and desperately needs a warm home with a soft couch. Kumpel was surrendered after biting his owner. At the shelter, he was immediately placed under the care of the mobile veterinary team, where it turned out that his aggression was caused by pain associated with numerous health conditions. Under the watchful eyes of hospital doctors and nurses, he became much more open, learned to wear a muzzle, and tolerates grooming procedures without resistance. His favorite part of the day is going outside from his kennel. When he’s in the outdoor run, he often doesn’t want to come back and tries to persuade his caregivers to join him on longer sniffing adventures. Unfortunately, he still has health issues, so he needs to take medication regularly. Generally, he’s a food-loving dog—unless he finds his pills, that is. Then he starts negotiating for the best treats, seeing it as an extra chance to get attention from his caregivers. To be honest, he’s not your typical easygoing Labrador; he tends to beg for food and protest during grooming sessions. Still, you can’t really blame him given what he’s been through. Although we don’t know his entire story, it doesn’t take long to figure out that it wasn’t exactly easy. To those who know him better, spend more time with him, and see him more often, he repays them with boundless trust and love. What Kumpel really needs is his own person—a companion who’ll show him that not everything has to be painful, who’ll give him the attention and sense of security this dog so desperately craves. He keeps himself nicely clean. He loves petting and cuddles, though due to his complex health situation, he might shy away from being touched around his neck. We know this is a matter of trust, because with caregivers he knows well, he lets them do anything. However, we don’t recommend him as a dog for children who wouldn’t be able to read his signals properly. He gets along fairly quickly with other dogs, and when passing by play areas or enclosures, he ignores other animals. Due to heart problems and his age, he shouldn’t be paired with an energetic and/or younger dog. The ideal resident would be someone stable and calm. Ideally, for his health, he’d be an only dog. Caring for Kumpel doesn’t require extensive experience with dogs, but it does demand time and determination. Kumpel is looking for someone who’ll love him unconditionally. The boy does have some bad habits, but they’re the result of having lacked proper care and being left to fend for himself, dealing with many things he shouldn’t have had to face. We believe that with the right person who’s willing to devote time and patience to him, showing him the right behaviors consistently and patiently, he’ll quickly learn good manners. This is a dog who’s ready for adoption and makes it clear every single day that he’s eager to meet his person.

Kumpel szuka człowieka który go pokocha bezwarunkowo.

About KUMPEL

What life with KUMPEL looks like

KUMPEL is a medium-sized senior dog waiting at Schronisko Kraków in Kraków.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting KUMPEL, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about KUMPEL?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Kraków handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw KUMPEL on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt KUMPEL if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Kraków will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is KUMPEL already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if KUMPEL isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Kraków early rather than rehoming privately; they know KUMPEL and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
