Kuno

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 2 years

Kuno—sometimes a little bunny-footed, sometimes completely childlike and super playful, and at other times almost stubborn. But when in doubt, he’s just a perfectly normal, somewhat shy young dog who hasn’t had much life experience yet and is now slowly catching up on it bit by bit. At first contact with people, this handsome male dog tends to be rather shy and hesitant. He needs time to get to know strangers, but once he does, he quickly becomes a very friendly and lovable fellow. New situations make him uneasy; sometimes he needs to be convinced, and sometimes he simply needs a bit of time to take a closer look at those seemingly scary things... until they turn out not to be so intimidating after all. Constant learning, experiencing new things, and becoming braver day by day—that’s the daily routine of this attentive and sensitive treasure. Too much hustle and bustle or a particularly lively neighborhood would be quite challenging for him; a quieter part of town would be ideal and beneficial for Kuno. He gets along wonderfully with other dogs, looks up to them a lot, and would certainly also be thrilled to have an existing first dog in his new home—though this isn’t a requirement for adoption. Kuno loves to play and likes to nudge his housemate gently in the ear now and then, teasing him into joining him for a lively romp around the exercise yard. By the side of confident, steady humans, Kuno’s courage will continue to grow, and he’ll develop into a wonderful buddy and companion who enjoys both exciting outings and cozy evenings spent together with his people—and never leaves their side. If you’d like to meet Kuno, feel free to visit the animal shelter in person during our adoption hours, or send a meaningful email to our animal carers.

About Kuno

What life with Kuno looks like

Kuno is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Franziskus-Tierheim Hamburg in Hamburg.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Kuno, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Kuno?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Franziskus-Tierheim Hamburg handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Kuno on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Kuno if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Franziskus-Tierheim Hamburg will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Kuno already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Kuno isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Franziskus-Tierheim Hamburg early rather than rehoming privately; they know Kuno and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
