In the animal shelter since: March 2026 Estimated age: born around February 2026 Estimated final shoulder height: approx. 60 – 69 cm Estimated final weight: approx. 24 – 29 kg Get to know Kurt in more videos! Kurt, a cheerful young dog with a lot of urge to explore Fellnase Kurt comes from a kill shelter in Romania. How dogs end up there, and much more, is explained in our animal welfare FAQ. Kurt was rescued from the kill shelter together with his siblings and his mother when he was still a tiny puppy. Ever since, he has been eagerly hoping and waiting for a home of his very own. Kurt is a lively young dog who loves being on the move and curiously explores his surroundings. When visitors arrive, he comes up to people wagging his tail and greets them enthusiastically. He lets himself be stroked and handled all over his body. Being petted also helps him settle down a little. Again and again he seeks out contact on his own, invites play, or comes running when he is drawn to attention with calling sounds. On the playground, Kurt shows his curious and playful side. He sniffs in the grass, explores the area, and enjoys playing with toys. He especially likes playing with his brother Max, with whom he enjoys a well-balanced, mutual game. Although Kurt sometimes comes to people on his own and at times approaches on command, exploring and playing currently take up more of his attention. Kurt is an active young dog who loves being out and about and still has to learn to channel his energy in the right direction. For him, we wish for a home that enjoys lovingly accompanying him as he grows up. Alongside shared activities, he should also be given the chance to learn to calm down and find his bearings in everyday life. For this Fellnase, we hope to find people who are aware that shelter dogs come with a certain history. We can never predict in the shelter how a dog will react to life in Germany. That is why we are looking for people who bring patience, perseverance, and goodwill. But one thing is certain: whoever adopts rather than buys gives not only an animal a second chance, but also actively chooses against animal suffering – and for a life with a very special companion by their side. Already smitten? Send us a self-disclosure! Adoption If you are considering adoption, first read through the placement process. All dogs are vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, treated for fleas, and neutered before departure (exceptions are puppies under 6 months and very old dogs). Dogs older than 1 year are additionally tested for Mediterranean diseases. If you have any further questions, feel free to write to our placement team.

About Kurt

What life with Kurt looks like

Kurt is a small puppy mixed breed dog waiting at Hunderettung Europa e.V. in Duisburg.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Kurt, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Kurt?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hunderettung Europa e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Kurt on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Kurt if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hunderettung Europa e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Kurt already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Kurt isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hunderettung Europa e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Kurt and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
