Adopt Kurt

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 10 years

The plump Kurt is an absolute optimist. Even when he landed in a Romanian killing station, he never lost his zest for life. With his sleeveless charm, he even charmed a German animal lover, who ultimately ensured his rescue and travel to a German animal shelter. For Kurt, it was nothing special – for despite many setbacks, he never stopped believing in himself and life. Kurt is a plump fellow with a great passion for good and plentiful food. For dog biscuits, he’s quite willing to fulfill one or two commands. At the animal shelter, he presents himself as an uncomplicated and pleasant companion. He’s always up for learning new things, provided they seem sensible. On the leash, he already walks well, and we’re sure that in his previous life, there were people who meant something to him. Overall, he gets along well with other dogs. He’s especially compatible with female dogs. With pouting male dogs, however, he won’t take everything lying down and will respond quite clearly. Here, he needs leadership qualities from his humans. But he remains a dog with good social behavior and a balanced nature. Kurt no longer needs athletic high performances. Pleasant walks, interesting sniffs, and relaxed shared time suit his nature much more. He loves extensive cuddles, enjoys every form of closeness, and can snuggle wonderfully. Overall, he has a rather calm temperament, can be a bit stubborn, and brings a pleasant watchfulness. For Kurt, we wish for people who are looking for an authentic, witty, and sometimes stoic companion and accept him just as he is. Character-wise, Kurt doesn’t want to change much more – and honestly, he finds himself pretty good. His new humans should be dog-experienced, understand dog language, and ideally live in the countryside where his watchfulness is appreciated. Kurt probably doesn’t know small children, so children in the family should already be around 12 years old. For those who want to give a charming original with edges and corners a home, they will find in Kurt a witty, nice, good-natured, cuddly, and loyal companion.

About Kurt

What life with Kurt looks like

Kurt is a large senior mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Koblenz in Koblenz.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Kurt, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Kurt?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Koblenz handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Kurt on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Kurt if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Koblenz will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Kurt already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Kurt isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Koblenz early rather than rehoming privately; they know Kurt and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
