Adopt Kyklopas

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 6 years

Update – February 2026: Today, Kyklopas had the chance to meet cats, and we unfortunately had to realize that he would prefer to live without cats in his new home. It would be worth trying with dog- and cat-experienced people who bring along a very confident, robust cat, but otherwise we will not rehome him in families with cats. The gentle giant barks at them unfortunately and stomps around quite a bit – all out of insecurity, but still very intimidating for sensitive soft paws. Kyklo is therefore waiting for a cat-free family that gives the big baby the necessary support that he urgently needs. Update – January 2026: Due to the change from his previous loving home to our animal shelter, he is very shy and unsettled, and the stress is clearly visible. During walks, he sometimes does not go at all or only partially through professional guidance; here, calmness and patience are needed to give Kyklopas back his security. Adoption text: Kyklopas is looking for a large dog bed and people with experience for a relaxed coexistence. Kyklo knows life in a city and handles environmental stimuli calmly and confidently. Kyklo gets along with other dogs, but also says no when something does not suit him or when he is bullied. On the leash, Kyklopas walks calmly and relaxed, and his size and weight are no problem. Like with herding dogs, stubbornness can occasionally come through, but this can usually be discussed with a treat. Kyklopas is familiar with long car rides and is used to staying home for longer periods.

About Kyklopas

What life with Kyklopas looks like

Kyklopas is a extra-large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Northeim.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Kyklopas, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Kyklopas?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Northeim handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Kyklopas on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Kyklopas if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Northeim will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Kyklopas already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Kyklopas isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Northeim early rather than rehoming privately; they know Kyklopas and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
