Adopt Lady

Belgian Malinois · Female · Senior · 9 years

Lady arrived at the shelter for the first time in May 2018. She was adopted several times, but returned a few days or a few weeks later, not having had the chance to properly adapt to her different homes. During her last adoption in 2019, she finally found the balance she needed... until her owner met someone that Lady did not accept. Back at the shelter in May 2021, she has never had the chance to leave since. Today, at 10 years old, and after several failures, Lady deserves more than ever to find a soft retirement basket to fully enjoy life. Lady is a dog very close to her reference human. She is affectionate, willing, and eager to learn and do well. She is committed to the relationship, forming a strong bond with the person who takes the time to engage with her. However, she can be quite exclusive. Lady needs stability and clear boundaries from the start. At home, Lady is housebroken and does not destroy anything. It may occasionally happen that a toy is damaged, but this is rare. And once her needs are met, she is relatively calm. Lady loves walks and fully enjoys every stroll. She still has some strength despite her age, but mainly during crossings. She is reactive to other dogs, which is currently being worked on by the team and volunteers. She is not comfortable with other animals of the same species that behave poorly, but could tolerate walking side by side when introductions are well done and supervised. Regarding people who accompany her, she maintains a certain degree of vigilance. Even though she can be attached to humans, she may redirect in certain situations of tension. That is why the use of a muzzle is required during walks: it allows protecting everyone and preventing her from reinforcing bad behaviors.

About Lady

What life with Lady looks like

Lady is a senior belgian malinois dog waiting at Perwez) in Sans Collier.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇧🇪Adopting from Belgium

Frequently asked

Adopting Lady, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lady?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Perwez) handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lady on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lady if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Perwez) will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lady already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lady isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Perwez) early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lady and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (FR). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
