Laila

Unknown · Young · 2 years

When Laila was found, the sight was barely tolerable – as was the smell. It smelled of decaying tissue. Laila was infested with parasites both inside and out. Her weakened little body barely had the strength to keep her alive. And then there were four small kittens, whose lives depended on Laila, because just two weeks earlier she had become a mother. But the little family was very lucky and found help at the L.I.D.A., the large animal shelter in Olbia. While the kittens found foster homes, Laila underwent an emergency operation at the animal shelter. The reason for the smell of decay was a ruptured uterus that needed to be removed urgently. By the way, Laila was named after the veterinarian who, after a long day of countless spay surgeries, couldn’t look away and likely saved her life with that. Her rescue was just over five weeks ago, and Laila has fortunately fought her way back to life. Whether long-term effects of the heavy parasite infestation will arise can currently not be assessed, but for the moment, Laila is over the hump and ready for a new life. A life in foster care and with a loving family that cares for her and shows her how beautiful life can be. We wish Laila a home where she can take leisurely nature walks in a quiet environment. Additionally, she should be able to enjoy her new home with a feline friend. Do you want to give the cute fluff ball a home where she can spend her days playing, snuggling, hunting, eating, and sleeping worry-free? Then get in touch with me. Laila is neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, and tested negative for FIV and FeLV. Before travel arrangements, she will also receive a parasite prophylaxis. We provide nationwide placement, so if you are willing to pick up Laila at one of the handover locations along the transport route, please contact us.

About Laila

What life with Laila looks like

Laila is a large young adult cat waiting at PfotenFreunde Sardinien e.V. in Germany.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Laila, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Laila?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. PfotenFreunde Sardinien e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Laila on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Laila if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — PfotenFreunde Sardinien e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Laila already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Laila isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with PfotenFreunde Sardinien e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Laila and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
