Adopt ŁAJEK

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Senior · 11 years

Born in 2015, ŁAJEK came to the animal shelter together with his canine companion, Greg. From the very first moments it was clear that they shared an exceptional bond - they are absolutely inseparable. They sleep together in one hut, support each other, and feel much safer together. Greg, the braver of the two, often gives Lajek courage, and his presence is like a safe harbor for Lajek. The beginning was very difficult. ŁAJEK was terrified of people - every attempt to approach ended with his escape to the hut. Even if he went out for a moment, as soon as someone entered the kennel run, he would quickly hide. He was frightened, resigned, as if he had lost faith that a person could be good. Fortunately, one volunteer decided to spend her time and heart on him. She started coming to him regularly - calmly, patiently, with great empathy. And this patience is starting to bring results. ŁAJEK trembles less often when he sees a familiar face. He starts allowing her to come closer, and even lets her gently pet him. It's a huge step for a dog who not long ago was paralyzed by fear. Although he is still very cautious and uncertain, it's visible that he is slowly opening up to humans. He can be picked up - he doesn't react aggressively, doesn't growl, doesn't run away. He freezes out of fear, but doesn't try to break free. His body is increasingly less tense like a string - he can even relax under a gentle touch. He begins to understand that petting can be pleasant, not a threat. Putting on leashes and going for walks are plans for the future - ŁAJEK needs time to feel more secure, but it's visible that he is on the right path. His eyes express curiosity more and more instead of fear. And every small step he takes towards trust is a huge success for us. We are looking for a patient, calm home for Lajek - a place where no one will chase him, but instead will be with him, step by step, teaching him that the world can be beautiful, and that a person is capable of love.

Zaczęła regularnie do niego przychodzić – spokojnie, cierpliwie, z ogromną empatią. I ta cierpliwość zaczyna przynosić efekty.

About ŁAJEK

What life with ŁAJEK looks like

ŁAJEK is a small senior mixed breed dog waiting at Schronisko dla Bezdomnych Zwierząt w Zielonej Górze in Zielona Góra.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting ŁAJEK, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about ŁAJEK?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko dla Bezdomnych Zwierząt w Zielonej Górze handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw ŁAJEK on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt ŁAJEK if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko dla Bezdomnych Zwierząt w Zielonej Górze will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is ŁAJEK already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if ŁAJEK isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko dla Bezdomnych Zwierząt w Zielonej Górze early rather than rehoming privately; they know ŁAJEK and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
