Lana

Mixed Breed · Female

When I first saw Lana’s pictures on my monitor, I was truly impressed. Rarely have I seen such a beautiful female dog – the fur that falls in perfect wave over her entire body, the bright red nose, the beautiful green eyes that can look straight into a person’s soul. And then I read that Lana was found in a trash can, when a friend of the animals discovered her. Desperate, the pretty little girl was searching for something to eat, and once again, the question arises: how does such a dreamy quadruped end up in such an environment? What’s wrong with people who, often over years, abandon their faithful household pets by simply banishing them to the street? Now, fortunately, Lana was discovered, and clever as our new arrival is, she immediately followed her rescuer’s call and was packed into the car without questions or problems, heading towards Arca Sevilla and, of course, towards a new life. Lana is only about a year old (as of August 2021), but she already impresses with her wonderful nature. She is balanced and attentive, affectionate and friendly, but at the same time, still a playful and curious puppy who is happy when the wild hunt is unleashed. One doesn’t have to be a big expert to see that Lana has a lot of Podenco blood in her veins, but please don’t let the Podenco’s adventurous reputation deter you, as many urban legends surround this breed. It’s true, the Podenco is a running hound, and it can take a long time for a representative of this breed to be comfortable off the leash, but that’s not a problem that only affects the Podencos (as it also depends on the individual dog’s character) and there are plenty of other ways to provide the Podenco with sufficient exercise. Dog sports, playing in the garden, running alongside a bicycle, jogging, and many other activities are excellent alternatives. On the pro side of the clever Spaniards’ account, there are many points that are far more interesting. Apart from being great and playful family dogs, Podencos are usually very quiet and balanced companions in the house. They neither bark excessively nor overprotect, they move almost silently and enjoy cuddles above all. As a capable working dog, most Fledermausohren (a nickname for Podencos) also learn very quickly how to stay alone without decorating the apartment or adding extra holes to the family’s shoes. Our impressively beautiful photomodel Lana can hardly wait to learn who she will enchant with her most charming smile, where she can dig for mice, and which corner her dog bed will be placed in (where she will then always saunter in a ladylike manner before lying down on the couch with her new best friends). And we are also very curious about it. This is a young, adolescent dog.

DE·Show original

About Lana

What life with Lana looks like

Lana is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lana, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lana?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lana on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lana if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lana already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lana isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lana and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
