Lando

Mixed Breed · Male

Lando—when he has the right people by his side—is a wonderful and low-maintenance companion once he’s built trust! But once the ice is broken, Lando proves to be a loyal and unwavering companion. To his primary caregiver, he’s like a shadow, following her closely wherever she goes outdoors. Lando is a smart and attentive dog who loves observing from a place of safety. He has a calm, thoughtful, and rather serious demeanor. Unfortunately, in his previous home, he rarely left the property, so he’s unfamiliar with many situations and sounds. Being outside his familiar territory always feels inherently dangerous to him. A calm, confident, and forward-thinking approach helps him feel secure and gradually learn to relax. Lando has already made great progress here—for instance, he’s gone from initially being afraid to get into a car all the way to not only willingly getting in but actually viewing the car as a safe space that he’ll seek out (especially in times of danger). He’s also made significant strides when it comes to being touched: whereas at first he’d barely tolerate it, he now genuinely enjoys being touched under the right circumstances and even happily lets you give him a paws-up massage on his hind legs ;) It’s truly heartwarming to see how a dog who once expected nothing good from humans can eventually close his eyes in deep trust and simply relax—even not just despite being touched, but because he’s being touched. Lando is highly sensitive and responds well to both verbal cues and body language. Clear instructions and a confident, steady leadership from his people would be ideal. Under no circumstances should his handling ever be harsh; instead, it must be consistent and clear. The male dog grew up living with other dogs in a pack, and having an existing, confident lead dog is essential for him.

About Lando

What life with Lando looks like

Lando is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Selb und Umgebung in Selb.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lando, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lando?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Selb und Umgebung handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lando on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lando if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Selb und Umgebung will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lando already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lando isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Selb und Umgebung early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lando and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
