Lancelot

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 1 year

mixed breed Lancelot, not a brave knight but a cautious young pup on the lookout for his fortune. His name suggests great heroism and brave knights – but our Lancelot must first learn that the world isn't so dangerous. Lancelot spent his entire puppyhood and the crucial imprinting phase at the Spanish animal shelter, just like his brothers. Instead of learning about security, everyday life, and close bonds with people, he grew up behind bars. This leaves its mark. And yet, we also want to say that the animal shelter itself was certainly not just something negative for Lancelot. There, he was safe, well cared for, and the animal welfare workers strive to give the dogs love, structure, and small positive experiences. But an animal shelter can never replace a real home. Sensitive young dogs like Lancelot only learn limited aspects of normal family life there. Much of it, he simply hasn't experienced yet. The handsome mastin-mixed breed is currently a bit shyer than his brothers. New situations and impressions quickly unsettle him. Trips outside the animal shelter, such as to the beach, show him piece by piece what the world is like – but it's clear how little he has experienced so far. Lancelot often tries to cover insecurity with barking and keeps people at a distance at first. But a closer look reveals something else: curiosity. Interest. The desire to actually come closer. He is especially oriented towards his brother and dares to take smaller steps out of his comfort zone more often because of him. For Lancelot, we are looking for people with hearts, patience, calmness, and understanding. People who don't expect a "ready-made" dog but are willing to let him come into his own at his own pace. People who don't pressure him but show him lovingly that trust can grow. Because Lancelot may not be a confident dog yet. But he is a very special dog. One that should finally learn what a real home feels like. Would you like to take Lancelot by the paw? Then please contact his case worker. A foster home would also be a great opportunity for Lancelot. If you want to accompany the sweet Arturo on his journey, please contact his case worker. He would also be very grateful for a foster home.

Doch schaut man genauer hin, entdeckt man schnell etwas anderes: Neugier. Interesse.

About Lancelot

What life with Lancelot looks like

Lancelot is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. in Germany.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lancelot, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lancelot?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lancelot on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lancelot if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lancelot already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lancelot isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lancelot and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
