Adopt Landschildkröten

Unknown

Currently at the animal shelter: 2 male Greeks, 1 male fourteen, 1 male Maure-Greek mix, and 1 Greek under 6 years of age with an unknown gender. Each year, various-aged siblings Landschildkröten find their way to us, either as a surrender or a found animal. We are searching for new appropriate homes for them. Do you already have one/two or more turtles? Please send us photos of the enclosure and the age & gender of the existing turtles. Correct composition: one male / one male with at least 2 females / multiple females. How should the husbandry look? Our main requirements are: - husbandry exclusively in the garden - at least 6qm ground space for a turtle - fully enclosed perimeter - nursery or greenhouse as a hideaway - varied enclosure (soil, planting, hiding spots, etc.) - female husbandry (even without a male): nesting mounds, e.g., made of sand For further tips, construction instructions, and inspiration, click >>Here<<. We are happy to advise you on husbandry.

About Landschildkröten

What life with Landschildkröten looks like

Landschildkröten is a small adult animal waiting at Tierheim Heppenheim in Germany.

Every animal has their own temperament and history. The shelter knows Landschildkröten far better than any listing can convey — ask about daily routine, ideal household, and what kind of adopter they're hoping for.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Landschildkröten, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Landschildkröten?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Heppenheim handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Landschildkröten on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Landschildkröten if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Heppenheim will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Landschildkröten already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most animals on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Landschildkröten isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Heppenheim early rather than rehoming privately; they know Landschildkröten and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
