Adopt Lavana

Mixed Breed · Female

Breed: American Staffordshire Terrier Birthdate: Jan. 2021 In the animal shelter since: Sept. 2023 Children in the household: no Home sought: in the countryside, without children, without other animals, experience with dogs that have grown up being low-reactive, an advantage The 2021-born female American Staffordshire Terrier, Lavana, is friendly with people after a get-to-know phase, though at the beginning she is insecure and therefore shy. Lavana has not learned much in her previous life. She was kept in a cellar and seized. Isolated from the outside world in her past, she is now beginning to catch up on the first things here in small steps. She is already familiar with a harness and goes very well on the leash. She can also wear a muzzle stress-free. For the insecure female dog, we are looking for a home in the countryside. It should be quiet and childless so she can also relax. Since we can only observe her behavior with other animals, we cannot make any statements at this time and are looking for a home without other animals for her. People interested in Lavana must be willing to get to know her over a longer period of time (patronage with taking in, support by our trainers).

Rasse: American Staffordshire Terrier Geburtsdatum: Jan. 2021 Im Tierheim seit: Sept.

About Lavana

What life with Lavana looks like

Lavana is a small adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutz Austria in Vienna.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇦🇹Adopting from Austria

Austrian shelters follow the federal Tierschutzgesetz framework: adopters sign a Schutzvertrag (protection contract) committing to the animal's welfare. Spay/neuter, microchip, and vaccinations are included; fees typically range €150–€350.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lavana, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lavana?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutz Austria handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lavana on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lavana if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutz Austria will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lavana already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lavana isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutz Austria early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lavana and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
