Layla

Mixed Breed · Female · Puppy · 4 months

Her mum, Lucy, is just over a year old and a petite 12.6kg, so Layla is expected to grow to a similar small-to-medium size — a really lovely, manageable build for most homes. Layla has a sweet, gentle nature and is already showing herself to be a confident little explorer. She’s inquisitive without being overwhelming, happy to take in the world around her and then come back in for reassurance and cuddles. She’s the kind of puppy who will thrive with a family willing to guide her as she grows, helping her learn the ropes of home life, lead walking and all the basics. She has passed her cat test, so could happily live in a home with dog-savvy cats, and being part of a litter, she’s used to the company of other dogs and enjoys playful interaction. Layla will be travelling to the UK with her mum and sisters in mid-April and will be ready to begin her new life shortly after arrival. As with all puppies, Layla will need:• Time, patience and consistent training• A home committed to continuing her socialisation• Plenty of love, structure and guidance as she grows In return, you’ll get a loyal, affectionate companion who will become a huge part of your life. Most of our dogs have been found abandoned as young pups, discarded as unwanted litters, as is often the case in Portugal where neutering is not as common as in the UK. After rescue, all of our pups spend time in private shelters and foster homes, meaning they arrive happy, healthy and well socialised. UK Registered Charity Number 1183775

About Layla

What life with Layla looks like

Layla is a extra-large puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Dogs N Homes Rescue in London.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Layla, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Layla?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs N Homes Rescue handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Layla on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Layla if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs N Homes Rescue will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Layla already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Layla isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs N Homes Rescue early rather than rehoming privately; they know Layla and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
