Lea

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 8 years

Lea has settled in well and was successfully rehomed to a new home in Dessau in April 2018… ………………………………………………………………………………………………………….. I am female, neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, and born around 2014. I am approximately 60 cm tall. I have been waiting for a home since November 2017. My caretakers say about me: Lea is the adoption of a befriended association in Germany, originally she was an imported dog. According to current findings, she is in good health. Lea is always open, friendly, and curious, charging into all new situations with great energy. At present, Lea lives with a male dog, with whom she plays, runs, and frolics extensively. She enjoys his company just as much as that of people. She greets everyone with great enthusiasm and is always delighted when it’s time for a walk. She should still learn a bit of manners and patience, even though she never means any harm. Lea is compatible with male dogs, but with female dogs, it depends on mutual affection. Social contact should be facilitated in dog training classes and in dog groups to allow her to fully enjoy playing and practice obedience in the presence of other female dogs. During walks, she passes by other female dogs calmly, although her leash manners still need some training. Lea is clearly looking for her two-legged companion, who is at least as lively, curious, spontaneous, and adventurous as she is. A confident male dog, if already present, would perfect the happiness in the new home, but it is not a condition. Similarly, a house and property are nice to have, but are not strictly necessary if they are available. Then, one should be prepared for a more intensive training start. Lea would be delighted, she would be eager to be part of it… we are convinced that after getting used to her, Lea will be a dedicated student in training with her human. Also, practicing alone time should be done with her, we think she will learn it quickly. As she has never had her own home before, she needs people who can consistently and with love teach her about the world and cohabitation; she can hardly wait to demonstrate her quick learning ability. She would be happy to be in a family with children of the appropriate age and under adult supervision and guidance. Lea is an ideal beginning dog for active people who will bring immense joy, fun, and a mountain of snuggling needs into their new home… and with it, the automatic calorie burning… so one would always have a personal fitness trainer at hand. Who would like to give the energetic and loving Lea a chance at her own home and work on the joint fitness program with her?

About Lea

What life with Lea looks like

Lea is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Schkortitz in Grimma.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lea, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lea?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Schkortitz handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lea on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lea if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Schkortitz will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lea already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lea isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Schkortitz early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lea and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
