Adopt Leader (fostered, reserved)

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 3 years

Leader is the animal from the Ag. Apostoli area who was threatened to be killed. We could not know about it and let that happen. Not to mention our faithful volunteer, Charlotte would never forgive us if it did. She had named him Leader, months ago, and called him to our attention but he was at the bottom of the list of priority admittance because from what we knew, Ag. Apostoli was dog friendly. That was not the case in Leader’s situation. I met him this morning at the foster’s home. What a darling boy. Kind, peaceful, grounded. Definitely not the “aggressive” animal they tried to make him out to be. Good luck, Leader. Everything is going to be alright! His story: A calm, friendly small griffon-type dog, well known in the Agioi Apostoloi area of Chania, is in immediate danger. He has lived peacefully in the area for years. After repeated complaints, the municipality collected him, neutered him and did not return him to his original spot. The dog managed to return on his own and was targeted again. There are reports that he has been harmed, and it is no longer safe for him to stay there. People who know him confirm that he has shown no aggressive behavior.

About Leader (fostered, reserved)

What life with Leader (fostered, reserved) looks like

Leader (fostered, reserved) is a small young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Souda Shelter in Chania.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇷Adopting from Greece

Greek shelters often partner with Northern European rescue groups for placements. Animals are sterilized, vaccinated, and chipped before adoption. Fees vary widely depending on whether the shelter is municipal or NGO-run.

Frequently asked

Adopting Leader (fostered, reserved), answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Leader (fostered, reserved)?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Souda Shelter handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Leader (fostered, reserved) on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Leader (fostered, reserved) if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Souda Shelter will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Leader (fostered, reserved) already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Leader (fostered, reserved) isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Souda Shelter early rather than rehoming privately; they know Leader (fostered, reserved) and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
