Adopt Leah

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 3 years

Leah came to us from horrendous conditions, with straw as her bed and unfortunately her food source at times too, she didn’t even have a name. We were the only ones who noticed she was pregnant, in a pen full of other dogs getting snowed on. We brought her home immediately, how could we not? She needed a c-section shortly after. Leah is an amazing girl, she put her trust in our founder and has been brilliant adapting to home life and she’s being a good mum. She has a cheeky side and will try to steal things like soft toys, but I can take them out of her mouth without issue. She walks well on the lead and hasn’t been reactive to people or dogs walking past. Leah hasn’t been a pet in her previous home, she doesn’t know how to sit or give paw, she’s smart so she may get there but she will need time and patience. She has started doing zoomies in the garden which is amazing to see. Her age is guessed, her previous owner said she’d had her 2 and a half years so we rounded up to 3. As always, we give 24 hour support, advice and help. Local homes are preferred so we can visit to help her settle in. Donations towards their care can be made via PayPal to or Bank Transfer to Chesterfield Animal Rescue Sort Code 20-20-50 and Account Number 93038009 A quiet, understanding home. I get on well with other dogs I’m house trained, no indoor accidents from me I still need some help with basic training… but I am a quick learner! If you think you can offer Leah the home they deserve then fill in the form below and we'll be in touch as soon as possible. Thank you

About Leah

What life with Leah looks like

Leah is a young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Chesterfield Animal Rescue in United Kingdom.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Leah, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Leah?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Chesterfield Animal Rescue handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Leah on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Leah if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Chesterfield Animal Rescue will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Leah already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Leah isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Chesterfield Animal Rescue early rather than rehoming privately; they know Leah and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
