Lene

Mixed Breed · Female

Lene is a victim of Ebay in the highest degree... originally, the previous owner was near Dessau to buy additions for her rodent group. While waiting, she looked through her phone and found a cute puppy and realized it was offered in this city for a mere 30€. She spontaneously arranged an appointment, completed the deal, and the puppy changed owners - without a vaccination certificate, purchase contract or any other documentation of the ownership change. At home, she sensibly realized that the timing was completely wrong, however she could not reach any of the sellers anymore. During the temporary accommodation, Lene escaped and was handed in by animal-loving finders to us. After contact was established with us and the request for further rehoming was clarified, especially financially... thank you at this point!... we were happy about her insight and the responsibility the young woman is taking. Lene showed herself to be a climbing specialist, not because she wants to run away, rather she would like to be involved everywhere. Initial uncertainty she quickly leaves behind, constant calming signals show us that she has not learned much yet, especially regarding trust in humans. Although she appears friendly and open, this still needs to be worked on. She greets people with exuberant greetings very kindly, almost gently with small people. Dog encounters still need to be trained, sudden start situations overwhelm and stress Lene. On walks she usually relaxes and accepts dogs nearby and is convinced by their play. The walking is initially unruly, but on the walk it is pleasant, even if other dogs are seen, she walks calmly on the leash. During her stay she has become calmer overall, even though a lot still needs to be learned, this shows that a certain routine and structure helps Lene learn. Housebreaking, car riding, dog encounters and basic dog training, Lene would like to perfect them. Lene is looking for a home where she is given the security and guidance in life that is missing so far. Ideally as a single dog or as a second dog to a confident, already trained dog. Whether female dogs are an option would have to be tested, but with patience, other animal species can also be accustomed to her. With the appropriate sense of responsibility from the parents, children would not be an obstacle. Anyone who would like to meet Lene already can visit her, provided they have weatherproof clothing, our forest area is not an option for a clean goodbye after the first meeting with Date and Lene... The descriptions are impressions and recordings of the animal in our animal shelter and our foster homes. Each animal can develop differently in its new home. This animal was surrendered to the shelter.

About Lene

What life with Lene looks like

Lene is a small adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Schkortitz in Grimma.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lene, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lene?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Schkortitz handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lene on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lene if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Schkortitz will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lene already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lene isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Schkortitz early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lene and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
