Leni

Podenco · Female · Young · 2 years

Charming little Podenco Leni. At her foster home, Leni shows herself to be agile, playful, very lively, and full of zest for life. Initially, she’s cautious and wary around strangers. Gaining Leni’s trust takes time—after all, you can tell that her previous life wasn’t exactly a happy one. She needs patience. She loves running and romping around in the garden. Inside the house, however, she tends to be more calm. As is typical for Podencos, Leni has a strong hunting instinct. She’s comfortable riding in the car and walks nicely on a leash. She also has no issues at the vet’s office. Leni learns quickly, is already house-trained, and is simply a treasure. She’d prefer a rural home with a securely fenced garden. Leni needs a canine companion she can look up to. Of course, she’ll need time to build trust—and patient people who will show her love and help her discover the joys of life. At her young age, she finally deserves to enjoy life to the fullest. Leni clearly has trouble walking; this has been medically evaluated by a veterinarian. For now, the decision has been made against surgery, but this condition must always be kept under close observation. It could be managed with physiotherapy, or one day the decision might have to be made for surgery. We’ll, of course, provide all necessary documentation. Who will give her the chance for a forever home? Click here for Leni’s video!

Bezaubernde kleine Podenca Leni. About Leni

What life with Leni looks like

Leni is a young adult podenco dog waiting at SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. in Germany.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Leni, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Leni?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Leni on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Leni if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Leni already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Leni isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Leni and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
