Adopt Tembani

Podenco · Male · Adult · 8 years

Tembani passed away suddenly and completely unexpectedly on December 8, 2025. He had behaved unobtrusively, there was no reason for concern. In the evening, he went to sleep as usual. When his caretaker found him the next morning in his basket, he was lying there just as before; he had simply fallen asleep peacefully during the night. Tembani was 8½ years old. He lived in the animal shelter well protected and in a familiar environment. We would have greatly wished him a home of his own, but his great fear prevented him from traveling so far, and a suitable, experienced home was not in sight. Tembani died suddenly and totally unexpectedly on December 8, 2025. He had shown no noticeable behavior and there was no cause for concern. In the evening, he went to sleep as usual. He lived in the shelter well protected and in an environment that was familiar to him. We would have very much liked him to find a home of his own, but his great fear prevented him from traveling so far, and there was no suitable, experienced home in sight. Thank you Attentive neighbors observed two galgos who were regularly out looking for food. The animal welfare workers followed them and discovered their refuge outside the city, with a big surprise: eight puppies hidden in the bushes. The puppies and the male dog could be secured, but the shy female dog was only captured after a few days. The galgo Tembani always showed himself to be very fearful and uncertain. He sought closeness, but was quickly overwhelmed by it and made his displeasure clearly known when someone came too close. At the same time, he proved to be an exceptionally caring father. Patiently, he took care of the puppies, for a long time alone, and even after his castration did not want to be separated from them. Thanks to the quarantine station, the puppies could be well cared for. Tembani remained always calm and affectionate, even when the small ones and later the young dogs played boisterously and wildly with him. Later, it was also possible to secure the mother dog Tadisa, thus reuniting the family. Thank you Attentive neighbors observed two galgos who were regularly out looking for food. Each individual dog is dear to them, often they take responsibility far beyond their own abilities. Our thanks also go to the godparents Heike and Sebastian for their reliable support and their good thoughts. Tembani will find his last resting place under a tree planted by one of us on the animal shelter grounds after individual cremation. It is comforting to know that he was lovingly cared for and could fall asleep peacefully. Not every protected animal is granted a home of its own. But thanks to godparents, we can enable safety, care and individual support. Words of farewell You would like to write something: Please activate JavaScript in your browser to complete this form. About Tembani

What life with Tembani looks like

Tembani is a large adult podenco dog waiting at Podenco in Not in Rieden am Forggensee.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Tembani, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Tembani?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Podenco in Not handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Tembani on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Tembani if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Podenco in Not will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Tembani already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Tembani isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Podenco in Not early rather than rehoming privately; they know Tembani and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
