Lenny

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 9 years

Lenny, born in 2017 and about 55 cm tall, is one of the dogs from the large rescue operation in Targu Jiu in 2023. His life until now was marked by deprivation, insecurity, and a lack of trust in people. All of this has left its mark, and it still shows today. Around visitors, Lenny behaves anxiously and keeps his distance. He tries to create space for himself by barking and to gain a sense of safety. When someone approaches his kennel, he withdraws. Lenny shows no real aggression, though; he simply wants to be left in peace for as long as he cannot yet judge the people in front of him. Lenny is a dog whose soul suffers because he never had the chance to build trust. He needs experienced, confident, and patient people who accept him at his own pace, without pressure and without expectations. People who recognize that behind his insecurity is a dog who is simply looking for peace. Lenny wishes for a home with calm, clear structure and empathy, ideally with a securely fenced property and people who have experience with sensitive or anxious dogs. Who will give him the chance of a real new beginning? Lenny is neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, and ready to travel. After a positive pre-adoption check, he will be placed with a protection contract. General note about our dogs: Our dogs in Romania are visited regularly so that we can continually reassess their behavior and development. These personal impressions help us greatly in giving the best possible picture of each individual dog. Nevertheless, we would like to point out that a dog in a new environment, with new people, new routines, and new impressions, can also show itself differently. This is completely normal and part of any process of change. Many dogs open up even faster in a home and show sides that were not visible at the shelter at all. Our assessments are therefore based on current observations, but they are no guarantee of every behavior in a new environment. They are meant to provide guidance and show how the dog presents itself at the shelter, and what potential lies within him. We are convinced that with patience, understanding, and a loving environment, every dog can find his way and continue to develop positively.

About Lenny

What life with Lenny looks like

Lenny is a large senior mixed breed dog waiting at Vierbeiner in Not e.V. in Germany.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lenny, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lenny?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Vierbeiner in Not e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lenny on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lenny if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Vierbeiner in Not e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Lenny already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lenny isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Vierbeiner in Not e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lenny and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
