Lenny

Mixed Breed · Unknown

Lenny is a true treasure who came to the city animal shelter with his brother Oslo in 2018. Since then, the two brothers have been the longest residents of the shelter and have seen many dogs come and go without anyone ever falling in love with them. Lenny is large and black, which unfortunately scares many people away, but Lenny has so much more to offer. He is a warm-hearted, affectionate, and lovable male dog who does everything he can to please his people. For several months now, he has been training diligently with a volunteer trainer and shows absolute motivation and learnability. Lenny takes great joy in learning new things and is easily guided and inspired. He has made significant progress and already masters several basic commands like sit and down, and with the right treats, the leash training is getting better too. Lenny is an extraordinary male dog who greatly appreciates the time and attention of the volunteer helpers at the animal shelter. He loves it when they take time for him and savors every moment of attention. Whether it's a little walk to relieve himself, a training session, a few minutes of play in the run, or simply cuddling and snuggling, Lenny is always there with great joy and gratitude. There are still no signs of age-related issues in the two brothers. Lenny and Oslo are fit and ready for any adventure. They look forward to every change and it is clear how much they enjoy when they can forget the dreary cage routine a few times a week and get a bit of exercise. Long walks, hikes, or nice family outings are something the two have unfortunately (still) not experienced, but we are sure that Lenny and Oslo would love to accompany their people everywhere. In dealing with other dogs, Lenny shows no complications. Over the many years in the animal shelter, he has met many different and varied dogs and today shows no real interest in other fellow animals. Some male dogs he finds a bit unsympathetic, but overall, he has no problems with them.

DE·Show original

About Lenny

What life with Lenny looks like

Lenny is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein Europa in München.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lenny, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lenny?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Europa handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lenny on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lenny if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Europa will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lenny already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lenny isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Europa early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lenny and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
