Leo

Jack Russell Terrier · Unknown · Senior · 9 years

With heavy hearts, we are looking for a new, loving home for Leo, our 9-year-old Jack Russell Terrier mix. Leo is a loyal companion who loves being with his people. He is cuddly, attentive, and at the same time an active dog who greatly enjoys walks and activities. He also needs his rest periods, during which he likes to withdraw. Leo currently lives with us in our family routine and knows life in an apartment. Character: Leo is generally child-friendly, but he also clearly shows his limits. When something becomes too much for him, he growls as a warning. If this boundary is not respected, he may snap. That is why we see him best in a home with older, understanding children or without small children. Unfortunately, crying babies or constant screaming stress him out a great deal. Interaction with other animals: Leo is generally compatible with other dogs, although there are some breeds he does not particularly like. So far, however, there have been no serious conflicts. He has no experience with cats so far. Important notes: Leo is very attached to his people and has difficulty being left alone. When he is alone or hears unfamiliar noises from outside, he may start barking. In addition, Leo has sensitive paws and is currently somewhat sensitive in the rear area when being touched. We therefore hope for people who treat his boundaries with respect and give him time. Leo is microchipped and neutered. Why we are looking for a new home: Due to our current life situation — we are expecting a baby — we unfortunately can no longer meet Leo's needs as well as he deserves. Unfortunately, no one in our family or circle of friends could be found who could take him in permanently. Tel.: 90 E-mail:

Tel.: 90 E-Mail:

About Leo

What life with Leo looks like

Leo is a senior jack russell terrier dog waiting at Tierschutzverein Pinneberg in Germany.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Leo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Leo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Pinneberg handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Leo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Leo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Pinneberg will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Leo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Leo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Pinneberg early rather than rehoming privately; they know Leo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
