Werner

Jack Russell Terrier · Male · Senior · 13 years

Werner is a friendly dog who is, however, completely deaf and therefore shows some uncertainty in certain situations. As a Jack Russell mix, Werner loves to be out and about and has a lot of energy. He is fit and a joyful dog who moves through his environment openly and with curiosity. He also approaches strangers with interest and friendliness. Being left alone is not one of his strengths; he sometimes barks and behaves restlessly. For Werner we are looking for people with dog experience who are able to work with body language and also to read his body language. He is fundamentally a sweet dog and is used to living together with cats, but he also has a lot of energy indoors. Werner wishes for a calm home where he is kept appropriately active and where his special needs due to his deafness are taken into account. Due to his deafness, we do not place him with children.

About Werner

What life with Werner looks like

Werner is a senior jack russell terrier dog waiting at Bertha-Bruch-Tierheim Saarbrücken in Saarbrücken.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Werner, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Werner?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Bertha-Bruch-Tierheim Saarbrücken handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Werner on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Werner if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Bertha-Bruch-Tierheim Saarbrücken will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Werner already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Werner isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Bertha-Bruch-Tierheim Saarbrücken early rather than rehoming privately; they know Werner and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
