Leo

Male · Adult · 5 years

Before you is a beautiful Leo. He came to us directly from his home. His previous "caregiver" claimed the dog was aggressive towards children. Whether this was true or just an easy excuse to get rid of a problem - we don't know. Nevertheless, due to caution, we will not recommend him for a home with children or where there will be children. Leo is initially mistrustful of new people, but fortunately he can be convinced to become friendly quite quickly. We don't know what happened in his previous home, but it seems that no one really took care of him (he didn't even have a full set of vaccinations), which may explain his uncertainty and lack of socialization. Initially, Leo scared us away with barking, but now he is a wonderful walking companion, and he even pushes himself onto people's knees and demands affection :) Keep in mind that Leo will require work after adoption, as we don't know what other problems might emerge. Also note that Leo may suffer from typical health issues of his breed (joint problems, spinal defects, eye diseases, skin problems, allergies). He is going to undergo diagnostics, among other things, for elongated soft palate and laryngeal collapse. What else can we say about this dog? Leo is an absolute volcano of energy on four legs! Walks with him will certainly not be boring. He has to be everywhere and preferably sniff every corner, check every toy nearby, and greet every person he meets.

PL·Show original

Czeka go diagnostyka w kierunku m.in. przerostu podniebienia miękkiego i zapadalności tchawicy.

About Leo

What life with Leo looks like

Leo is a medium-sized adult dog waiting at Schronisko Na Paluchu in Warsaw.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Requires medical evaluation for soft palate enlargement and tracheal collapse. May have joint, spinal, eye, and skin problems typical of breed. Needs socialization work and behavioral training.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Leo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Leo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Na Paluchu handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Leo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Leo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Na Paluchu will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Leo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Leo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Na Paluchu early rather than rehoming privately; they know Leo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
