Adopt Leon

Staffordshire Bull Terrier · Male

Leon is a handsome young Staffy who hasn't had an easy life so far. His previous owners did not act in his best interest and aimed for the stereotypical image of the big, protective dog in his upbringing. This means our caretakers had to tailor a training schedule that suited him and have made tremendous progress with consistent daily routines and effective training by our trainer. We see him snoozing on our meadows and snuggling with the caretakers on the sofa, but also showing clear disapproval of guests on the premises, making it abundantly clear what he thinks of them. Mistakes with Leon have consequences, and he is not a "learning dog" for beginners. Leon is a very sensitive dog who reacts to the mood of the people around him. A confident handling, even with a imposing little guy like him, is something his new family must master. Leon should therefore only be placed with dog-experienced and stable people who can manage his training and his strength in an emergency. Those who are willing to work with him and give him the feeling of safety and love will get to know his calm and affectionate side. Our caretakers also test him according to their mood, so it will also be important in his own home to work consistently and effectively with him. Children are absolutely not welcome in Leon's family and would be an exclusion criterion, as well as cats or small dogs (under 15 kg) that he could inadvertently injure with his size. Staffordshire Bullterriers have a prey drive that excludes cats as family members. Experienced dog owners who want to meet the lovely Leon can make an appointment at the animal shelter Sedelsberg by phone. We kindly ask that you do not drop by spontaneously but call in advance so that Leon is also there and not just on a walk!

About Leon

What life with Leon looks like

Leon is a small adult staffordshire bull terrier dog waiting at ASPCA Friesoythe and surroundings in Saterland.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Leon, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Leon?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. ASPCA Friesoythe and surroundings handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Leon on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Leon if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — ASPCA Friesoythe and surroundings will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Leon already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Leon isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with ASPCA Friesoythe and surroundings early rather than rehoming privately; they know Leon and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
