LEPA

Female · Young · 3 years

We rescued a beautiful dog from the city shelter in a terrible condition - emaciated and terrified. She had given birth on a cemetery where she had dug a hole in the ground to feed and warm her puppies. In November 2024, we removed her puppies from the cemetery to accommodation. We promised her we would come back for her. But she disappeared. She ended up in the city shelter. A volunteer from our association went to get her while she was waiting in a corner for the day she would die. Terrified and emaciated. We reunited her with her puppies in the pension and she is now undergoing a long physical and emotional recovery. Time has brought her some improvement, she has regained strength and put on weight from regular and quality food, but the trauma from people is still present. We can't even imagine what she has been through. But time is working in her favor. It's getting better, she no longer trembles at human touch, she establishes eye contact. She has shown us that she can almost bark, which is a sign that she is relaxing more and more. We go on LEPA...

Prestravljena i premršava. Idemo dalje Lepa…

About LEPA

What life with LEPA looks like

LEPA is a young adult dog waiting at Šape Smedereva in Smederevo.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇷🇸Adopting from Serbia

The shelter typically completes the animal's vaccinations, microchipping, and pet passport before adoption. Specific fees and process details vary by shelter and country — confirm directly via the contact details in the sidebar.

Frequently asked

Adopting LEPA, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about LEPA?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Šape Smedereva handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw LEPA on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt LEPA if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Šape Smedereva will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is LEPA already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if LEPA isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Šape Smedereva early rather than rehoming privately; they know LEPA and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (SR). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
