Lewko

Male · Adult · 5 years

At first glance, it's clear that Lewko is a sweetheart! But in the animal shelter, he hides behind a shy demeanor - at first he avoided us a bit, kept his distance, but he was carefully watching our movements and now, seeing familiar faces, he jumps up with joy, nuzzling our legs! On the yard, he can show off - he stretches his chest a little, tightens his butt, and proudly holds his tail. He is a brave, cheerful, self-confident, and very smart dog, which causes justified admiration among the female dog, and among the boys... mixed feelings, but all meetings take place in a canine culture and mutual respect atmosphere - apparently Lewko is used to the canine world and knows how to behave! Initially, the idea of walking on a leash was completely unknown to him, which is logical considering his past, about which we know a little - Lewko lived on a property along with two female dog, in limited space, and if he left the area, it was "illegally" and no one certainly cared whether he returned. Unfortunately, the person who took care of the trio could not continue the care, and when the dogs were taken, they were neglected and very scared. Fortunately, that is already history - at this moment, we are looking for a place similar to what Lewko knows, that is, a house with a garden, a small yard, or a very quiet neighborhood, where Lewko will be able to slowly adapt to a new life. It will definitely be easier for him with a kind companion who will guide him through the world of humans. We are also looking for a family that will gradually lead Lewko through the adaptation process to home conditions - in an atmosphere of understanding, patience, and relaxation, because Lewko will certainly need more time to find himself in a new place. Although... looking at how hard he tries to find his way in the shelter conditions, it can be assumed that in a home he may also quickly adapt.

About Lewko

What life with Lewko looks like

Lewko is a medium-sized adult dog waiting at Schronisko Na Paluchu in Warsaw.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Needs gradual adaptation, requires patient family and preferably a house with garden

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lewko, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lewko?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Na Paluchu handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lewko on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lewko if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Na Paluchu will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lewko already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lewko isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Na Paluchu early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lewko and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
