Lia

Mixed Breed · Female · Senior · 9 years

Size: 55cmAge: *09/2024. Compatible withMales: YesFemales: YesCats: not yet tested Since: 30.03.2026Residence: animal shelter ANAA Juni 2026 – The wonderful Lia is a young Malinois-mixed-breed female dog who, unfortunately, has not yet had the chance to experience what a protected and safe home feels like. Together with her siblings Merle and Daryl (whom you can also find on our homepage) and her mother, she lived under difficult conditions before she was finally taken in by the animal shelter. Lia is a sensitive, calm, and cautious female dog. People still scare her, so she needs time to build trust, and one must not pressure her. In the animal shelter, she now accepts treats near her primary caregiver and makes small but significant progress. Every little step shows that she wants to discover the world beyond her fear. She gets along well with her fellow animals, especially with male dogs, with whom she understands each other perfectly and enjoys their company. She is playful and curious. Like many young Malinois, she tends to have a startle response in exciting situations, which manifests as a quick nip. This is not aggressive behavior but an expression of insecurity and stress. For Lia, we are looking for a home with dog-experienced people who are familiar with this breed and insecure, anxious dogs. People with patience, love, and understanding who can gently and consistently guide her, work with her, and help her as a team to master new situations. People who show her that life also has beautiful sides. Lia also wants to be encouraged and challenged with head and nose work. Lia is waiting for her people who look beyond her insecurity and show her that she has finally arrived – perhaps with you.

About Lia

What life with Lia looks like

Lia is a medium-sized senior mixed breed dog waiting at Tiere in Spanien e.V. in Hamburg.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lia, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lia?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tiere in Spanien e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lia on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lia if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tiere in Spanien e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lia already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lia isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tiere in Spanien e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lia and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
