Libby

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 2 years

Libby is a likely 2024-born, spayed mixed breed dog who was found abandoned and brought to the animal shelter of our Hungarian partner organization. She has an extremely friendly, cheerful nature and approaches people openly. She is very active and would be a great partner for long walks, jogging or hiking. She enjoys learning new things, so she will quickly grasp the dog ABC and the daily routines in her new home. Due to her nice character, Libby is wonderful as a family dog, who would also feel comfortable in families with older children. She gets along well with male dogs and plays enthusiastically with them, but with other female dogs, she decides based on sympathy, which is why we recommend her as a second dog to a dog owner. It is not known how she reacts to cats. She wants loving and active people who patiently educate her, have enough free time and do not live in the middle of the city. Some experience in dog keeping should already be available. The female dog has a shoulder height of 50 cm and weighs about 20-25 kg.

HU·Show original

About Libby

What life with Libby looks like

Libby is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Animal Care Hungary.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇭🇺Adopting from Hungary

Hungarian shelters operate at high capacity given the country's stray population. Animals leave sterilized, chipped, and with a passport. Many shelters coordinate transport to Germany, Austria, and the Nordics.

Frequently asked

Adopting Libby, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Libby?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Animal Care Hungary handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Libby on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Libby if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Animal Care Hungary will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Libby already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Libby isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Animal Care Hungary early rather than rehoming privately; they know Libby and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (HU). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
