Lilo

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 4 years

Lilo – a reserved beauty with much joy in life Lilo lives currently at the animal shelter in Bulgaria and waits there for her chance at a better life. Despite the difficult circumstances, she has preserved her joy in life and shows herself as an active, friendly female dog with a gentle nature. Lilo loves to run and play. She enjoys being in motion and understands herself excellently with other dogs, with whom she can frolic and forget the daily routine at the animal shelter for short moments. Towards humans, Lilo is rather reserved. She does not push herself forward and does not actively approach someone, but waits patiently until one approaches her and gives her attention. Then she shows how much she loves cuddles and enjoying closeness. For Lilo, we wish for dog-experienced people or a sensitive foster home that meets her with calmness, patience, and understanding. We particularly imagine a home in a rural environment with a large, securely fenced garden, where she can move freely, frolic to her heart's content, and feel safe. She needs time to gain trust and get used to all the new things. If given this time, Lilo will open up and show how wonderful a companion she can be. Who will give Lilo the chance to leave the animal shelter behind and finally arrive? Adopting an animal shelter dog always means taking on a special responsibility and can also become a challenge. The dogs bring a backpack of past experiences or unlearned situations with them and need time to adjust to their new life. If you have serious interest in adopting Lilo, please contact the responsible mediator of the SALVA Dog Aid. We would also be very happy about the provision of a foster home.

About Lilo

What life with Lilo looks like

Lilo is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lilo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lilo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lilo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lilo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lilo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lilo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lilo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
