Lina

German Shepherd · Female

Lina is a German Shepherd mix from Germany, the result of hobby breeding. She was sold at a high price, but the family was overwhelmed with the puppy. They asked for our help, and when we met Lina, we were horrified: the dog had no fur on her face and chest, she was emaciated, and her gait was catastrophic. Despite this, we did not turn away and did everything to help Lina and spare her the shelter. Now, after 6 months, Lina has transformed from an ugly duckling into a beautiful swan. She is a lively, friendly dog that immediately wins hearts. She loves children, cats, and all people, whether known or strangers. She is compatible with all her peers, knows the dog 1×1, sleeps through the night, is house trained – in short: Lina is great! She goes easily to the riding stable, works as a "helper" at the veterinarian, and understands when she needs to be quiet for a while. She would be the perfect office dog, but also a family dog and loyal companion. Lina is enthusiastic about everything and you can see her joy when you praise her. However, Lina still has a very uneven gait despite surgery. The hip and back were too severely damaged. Lina is pain-free, and that is the most important thing. Do you have questions about Lina? Would you like to get to know this treasure? Then please get in touch. Lina is of course chipped, vaccinated, and has an EU passport.

DE·Show original

About Lina

What life with Lina looks like

Lina is a extra-large adult german shepherd dog waiting at Tierschutzverein Furbys FellFreunde in Bornheim.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lina, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lina?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Furbys FellFreunde handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lina on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lina if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Furbys FellFreunde will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lina already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lina isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Furbys FellFreunde early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lina and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
