Adopt Lino

Dachshund · Male · Senior · 10 years

Lino lives in a foster home. We are still looking for donors and sponsors. Update: Lino is located at Canis Familiaris, a dog training class with a dog pension in Ansbach, Bavaria, on a foster home. Lino runs in various dog groups, can now put on and take off the muzzle without a problem, and enjoys cuddle sessions with his trusted people. These can do almost anything with him. The owner and dog trainer, Chris Friedlein, himself describes Lino as the least problematic dog in the group. However, his triggers are still not gone and it requires people with the right understanding and ability to read dog language, because Lino communicates wonderfully. A small dog with big "special effects" seeks knowledgeable people. Lino is a Jack-Russel terrier mix who came to Germany about a year ago and had his people under control for five years there. So, Lino was given to us in September 2021 because of absolute overload. Apparently, he was permanently rewarded for his misbehavior, so he learned that this behavior leads to success. When it didn't suit him, he finally bit. His behavior clearly shows that he defends all resources and considers an attack the best defense. Since the first day at the animal shelter, Lino has shown that he only does what he wants. If someone gets too close, wants to touch or leash him, he immediately explodes. He has bitten multiple times, making him only handlable with a muzzle, which also presents a challenge. When entering the enclosure, he immediately defends everything. His bowl, his bed, his entire territory. Once he has trust, the person (currently a staff member) can do quite a lot with him, as long as Lino wants to. For example, he also asks for cuddles. If he wants to go for a walk, the leash can be gently clicked into the harness. If Lino does not want all of this, he immediately goes forward and bites.

About Lino

What life with Lino looks like

Lino is a small senior dachshund dog waiting at Tierheim Ettlingen in Ettlingen.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lino, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lino?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Ettlingen handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lino on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lino if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Ettlingen will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lino already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lino isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Ettlingen early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lino and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
