Linux

Collie · Male

Our animal rescuers report: The dear male dog Linux lay for hours under a car. It seemed he was seeking shelter. We do not know from or against what or who. Passersby discovered the young mixed breed and informed the police. Fortunately, it was empathetic passersby who did not ignore the dog's fate. The police finally informed Elena, the animal rescuer from La Solana, that she should pick up the dog. Linux, as Elena later named the male dog, immediately responded well when she tried to lure him out from under the car. He came quickly to her and got into her car without problems. As if he knew this could be his chance. Now the beautiful Linux sits in the La Solana animal shelter and first needs to sort everything out. He is a friendly dog who is initially a bit shy. He is still so young and has probably not had many good experiences with people. But once he has gained trust, he likes to be close to people and likes to be stroked calmly. There is still some caution in his behavior; who can blame him. We suspect that Linux's short life so far was only tied to a chain, and he did not receive any friendly speech. How sad. He just needs some time and stability to open up completely.Walking on a leash is currently still difficult for him, probably because he does not know it, and maybe he was also beaten with the leash or he associates the leash with the sad chain holding. But since Linux is a clever little fellow (he is probably a herding dog mix) he will surely learn that quickly. He gets along well with the other dogs in the shelter, there are no problems here. Now we are looking for a very good home for the dear male dog with animal-loving, understanding and patient people. Linux wants to arrive and rest. He wants to be able to use a soft bed and go on an outing with his human in nature. He has his whole life ahead of him, NOW it should be good! Please note:The feedback from the animal shelters reflects the current behavior of those here

About Linux

What life with Linux looks like

Linux is a adult collie dog waiting at Tierischgeholfen e.V. in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Linux, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Linux?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierischgeholfen e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Linux on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Linux if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierischgeholfen e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Linux already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Linux isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierischgeholfen e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Linux and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
