Lio

Mixed Breed · Male

Description Our animal welfare workers report: Lios story goes straight to the heart. For several weeks, he lived right in the city center – among people, noise, and hustle and bustle, alone in the pedestrian zone of Vaslui. And yet, this wonderful dog never lost his love for people. On the contrary: Lio followed everyone who was friendly to him. Never pushy, never wild – simply gentle, cautious, and full of hope for a little closeness. Again and again, he lay emaciated and curled up in the middle of the alley, as if waiting for someone to finally notice him. For someone to stop. For someone to love him. But instead of security, the dog catchers eventually came. Lio was brought to the killing station. When we learned of his fate, we could not leave him there – we had to get him out. Now, Lio is safe in a rental shelter. But a shelter is not a home. For Lio is a dog who loves people so much. Our animal welfare workers describe him as incredibly friendly and clingy – a large dog with an even larger heart. He follows his trusted people everywhere simply because he seeks closeness and wants to belong. One of these dogs that everyone immediately falls in love with: gentle, lovable, kind, and full of trust. He gets along with fellow animals and has even met some cats. Lio does not want a life of luxury. He simply wants love. Warmth. A soft place to sleep. Enough to eat. Hands that stroke and people who will never leave him alone on a cold street again. This gentle boy deserves so much more than what life has shown him so far. Maybe his happiness waits for him exactly with you. Please note:

Beschreibung Unsere Tierschützer berichten: Lios Geschichte geht direkt ins Herz.

About Lio

What life with Lio looks like

Lio is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierischgeholfen e.V. in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lio, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lio?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierischgeholfen e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lio on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lio if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierischgeholfen e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lio already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lio isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierischgeholfen e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lio and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
