Lisa

Domestic Shorthair · Female · Senior · 12 years

Lisa was abandoned, weakened and in poor health conditions, near the LAV mobile field in Calabria during the sterilization and free microchipping tour. Recovered by our volunteers, she was examined by the veterinary staff present who recommended an emergency hospitalization. After discharge, Lisa had difficulty recovering, so we decided to bring her to Rome where, after a new hospitalization, she was diagnosed with triaditis (inflammation of the pancreas, bile ducts and intestines). Today Lisa is doing well, her blood values have returned to normal, she has gained weight and looks like a healthy cat. She will soon undergo a small surgery on one eye and then will be available for adoption. Lisa is not the typical super affectionate cat. She is a cat with her own past that we will never know, but who has decided to entrust herself to our care. She is shy but never aggressive, she allowed herself to be treated without ever biting or scratching. She does not like being petted but maybe she just needs to find the right family to open up to. To date, she is a solitary cat, who coexists peacefully with other cats but does not interact much with them. For Lisa we are looking for a family that knows and loves felines, that knows how to respect her pace and her introverted character. Whether or not Lisa decides to open up to us humans, it is a choice that she can make only when she wants to. Lisa is negative for the FIV / FeLV test and coprological exam. She is located in Rome, so we are looking for adoption preferably in Rome or in Lazio. A secure home is required, with mosquito nets and high mesh on the balconies.

About Lisa

What life with Lisa looks like

Lisa is a small senior domestic shorthair cat waiting at LAV Italy in Rome.

Senior cats are the gentlest house guests: predictable, mostly silent, and grateful for a sunny windowsill. Older cats often have minor dental or kidney issues — keep an eye on water intake and weight. Many sleep eighteen hours a day and want no part of any drama.

Note from the shelter: Previous triaditis (pancreas, bile ducts, intestinal inflammation), upcoming minor eye surgery, requires secure housing with screens and high balcony nets

🇮🇹Adopting from Italy

Italian canili require adopters to sign a stewardship contract (affido) and may retain the right to verify the animal's wellbeing post-adoption. Animals are chipped and sterilized before leaving (Legge 281/91). Public canili rifugio typically waive adoption fees.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lisa, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lisa?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. LAV Italy handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lisa on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lisa if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — LAV Italy will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lisa already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lisa isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with LAV Italy early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lisa and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (IT). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
