Adopt Liv & Urmel

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Young · 3 years

May we introduce: Liv and Urmel – two rabbits with a very special history and charm! Liv, our little lady, has a distinctive feature: her magically crooked whiskers, which give her a slightly bewildered but even more endearing expression. What makes her particularly special: Liv has a somewhat quirky sense of orientation and doesn't always find the direct path right away – but that only makes her even more charming. She needs a calm, secure environment where she can find her way around and a patient heart that provides her with this. Urmel, 2–3 years old, is a charming Lionhead mix and the fluffiest creature you can imagine! His magnificent fur makes him a real eye-catcher – but it also requires some effort: either regular, intensive fur care or a trim every four weeks, so he feels comfortable all around. Urmel is neutered and a true gentleman. Both are tame and people-oriented – they let themselves be touched and enjoy the contact with their humans. Liv and Urmel are exclusively offered together, for what would they be without each other? They are a real team! An indoor as well as an outdoor home is possible. Since Urmel requires regular fur care and Liv brings her little peculiarity, we would very much wish for an indoor home for the two – this makes daily care easier and the two can become even more part of the family life. This animal was surrendered to the shelter.

About Liv & Urmel

What life with Liv & Urmel looks like

Liv & Urmel is a small young adult mixed breed rabbit waiting at Tierschutzverein Trier und Umgebung e.V. in Germany.

Rabbits are social animals — most shelters recommend adopting them in bonded pairs rather than alone. They need fresh hay daily, several hours of out-of-cage time, and rabbit-safe spaces to explore. They live eight to twelve years, longer than many people expect.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Liv & Urmel, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Liv & Urmel?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Trier und Umgebung e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Liv & Urmel on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Liv & Urmel if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Trier und Umgebung e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Liv & Urmel already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most rabbits on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Liv & Urmel isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Trier und Umgebung e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Liv & Urmel and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
