Adopt Bones

American Staffordshire Terrier · Male · Adult · 5 years

Bones currently lives at a training facility. Breed: American Staffordshire Terrier Compatibility with others with other dogs: Females are mostly okay, males are difficult Compatibility with others with cats/kittens: No (prey drive) Specials: List dog (proof of knowledge required) Bones is witty, playful, attentive, and action-oriented. He has a quick learning ability. Bones needs a home with dog experience and an interest in body language, American Staff, and aggression forms in dogs and how to handle them. Then, Bones can be like one of our dogs at the animal shelter who enjoys spending time with fellow animals and communicates fairly with them. He has a fun time with engagement training like mantrailing and formalism. He knows when it’s his turn and when he needs to take a step back. He knows when he can make his own decisions and when he needs to look to his human for guidance. Bones quickly notices if a person understands how dogs communicate with each other and whether he can question that person or not. He needs loving but consistent training. Otherwise, Bones is typically strongly territorial, stubborn, and will go to great lengths to make the day go as he sees fit. In the past, he has even managed rooms and prevented people from going through doors or put on a coat for him in the winter. Bones needs regular mental and physical stimulation. Mantrailing would be a recommendation as it equally engages body and mind. Important: Breed-specific conditions come with his new owners before taking the dog home. He is listed under the State Dog Act (LHundG) as a list dog and is considered one of the dangerous dog breeds. Photo by: blickwinkel photographie, www.blickwinkel-pr.

Foto by: blickwinkel photographie, www.blickwinkel-pr.de

About Bones

What life with Bones looks like

Bones is a small adult american staffordshire terrier dog waiting at Tierschutzverein Trier und Umgebung e.V. in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Bones, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Bones?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Trier und Umgebung e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Bones on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Bones if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Trier und Umgebung e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Bones already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Bones isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Trier und Umgebung e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Bones and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
