Liva

Female · Senior · 10 years

This ten-year-old herder female dog is named Liva. Her previous owner lost trust in her due to an incident. We suspect that the living conditions played a part in Liva's behavior. Due to the tensions and to prevent multiple incidents, we have taken in Liva. We experience her as a friendly, present lady. She is alert, looks nervous, and can quickly become highly excited with too many stimuli. Liva needs space and finds it nice to have someone nearby. During a walk, she pulls on the leash. Training is mega fun for Liva and she focuses very well. Once she knows you, she keeps a close eye on you and is happy to be by your side. For her, we are looking for a place where she has space and where there is experience with herders. Liva is not placed with children and other animals. We think she might be able to function as a guard dog where she is welcome indoors and gets attention. Interested in Liva? Contact us and mention in your motivation at least: Sensitive, eager to learn, and brave when needed. Shy lady wants to discover everything the world has to offer. Affectionate girl wants to be by your side.

Interesse in Liva?

About Liva

What life with Liva looks like

Liva is a large senior dog waiting at Dierentehuis in Netherlands.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Liva, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Liva?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dierentehuis handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Liva on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Liva if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dierentehuis will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Liva already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Liva isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dierentehuis early rather than rehoming privately; they know Liva and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
